BOARDMAN - The Riverside Pirates defeated the Umatilla Vikings 9-2 in junior varsity soccer action at Boardman on Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates scored their first goal in about the second minute of the first half. Action moved up and down the pitch for the next 18 minutes with no serious opportunities. Then at about the 20th minute the Pirates scored their second goal. Seven minutes later Riverside scored their third goal.
Umatilla finally got on the board with a goal in the 38th minute of the first half. When the whistle for halftime sounded Riverside led 3-1.
Two minutes into the second half #22 for Riverside scored from the top of the penalty box for 4-1 lead. The same player scored again at the 16th minute from the corner of the box for the 5-1 lead. One minute later Riverside #6 scored going up the middle to give Riverside the 6-1 score. At the 20th minute Riverside #18 scored to stretch the lead to 7-1. Number six for the Pirates scored another goal about 23 minutes into the second half for a 8-1 lead.
Twenty six minutes into the second half Umatilla scored their second goal to move the score to 8-2.
