ECHO - Echo High School hosted the Echo Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Friday's first evening game was between the Lady Cougars of Echo and the Spartans of Pine Eagle. The Cougars won 41-35.
Echo held Pine Eagle scoreless for the first six minutes of the game taking a 13-0 lead. The Spartans finally find their range and scored seven points in the minute and a half remaining in the first quarter.
Echo continued their domination in the second quarter with scoring by Elizabeth Ferge, Lauren Elligsen, Kristin McCallum, and Taylor Tarvin to give the Cougars a 26-10 lead at the half.
Momentum shifted slightly to the Spartans in the third quarter out scored the Cougars ten to six partly with the help of freethrows. Echo still lead overall 32-20.
The Spartans continued to chip away at the Cougars lead in the fourth quarter until they were within three points 38-35. The Cougar defense shut down the Spartan scoring machine over the of the last minute play while making a bucket and a freethrow to give Echo the 41-35 win.
Echo was the more balanced team with six players scoring. Lead by Elizabeth Ferge with 15, Stephanie Mason with 8, Taylor Tarvin with 6, Kristin McCallum with 6, Ryanne Tarvin with 4, and Lauren Elligsen with 2.
The bulk of Spartan scoring came from CeAira Marks with 15 and Chelsie Gulick with 12. The rest of the scoring came from Kaylee Holmstead with 5 and Makenzie Bell with 3.
