STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers (7-7 Blue Mountain League) defeated Weston-McEwen (6-8 Blue Mountain League) 75-55 on senior night. The game was played Friday, February 13, 2009. The Tigers will be going to Pendleton to play Enterprise on February 20 at 7:30 in the first round playoffs.
Weston-McEwen came roaring out of the gates to take a 5-2 lead. With steady play by Tyler Hawkins, Robbie Shirley, Hector Esquivel, Quin Grogan, and Chase Erwert the Tigers took the lead and pulled away from Weston-McEwen. The score at the end of the first had Stanfield leading 19 to 12.
The Tiger Scots clawed their way back into the game in the second period. They tied it up at 27 all with three minutes to go in the period. The teams tied again at 31. At that point Hector Esquivel hit back to back treys and Grogan hit a jumper and freethrow for a nine point burst for the Tigers. The Tigers went into halftime leading 41-31.
The Stanfield Tigers continued to score consistantly in the third period. Among the scorers were Esquivel, Robbie Shirley, Devin Bailey, Hawkins, Ryan Griffin, and Omar Ibarra. Stanfield led at the end of the third 56 to 39.
The Stanfield Tigers solidified their control of the game in the fourth period. Tiger scorers included Hawkins, Bailey, Shirley, Esquivel, and Griffin. Bailey hit a trey. Esquivel hit two shots in a row. Tigers won 75 to 55. Their 7-7 record sets them up for a playoff game scheduled at Pendleton against the Enterprise Outlaws on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m.
