ECHO - The Echo Cougars defeated the Umatilla Vikings in a single game by a score of 11-6 on Thursday, April 2, 2009. The weather was partly cloudy, breezy and 47 degrees. It was an evenly played game until Echo broke it open in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring seven runs.
Umatilla scored two runs in the top of the second inning. Echo came back in the bottom of the second when Aubrey Summers drove in Alyssa Sobotta close the gap to 2-1.
Echo's first score in the bottom of the fourth when Katelind Zabransky scored while Ellan Hampton was being rundown at second base to tie it up 2-2.
Echo took the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Emma Gabriel scored on a pass ball. Moments later Ashlee Hodgen scored on another pass ball to stretch the Cougars lead to 4-2.
Umatilla scored in the top of the sixth on a ground shot up the middle.
Echo really turned on the scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Leading 4-3 Emma Gabriel hit drive past the Umatilla shortstop into left field driving in Katie Pirmmer and Rachel Round for a 6-3 lead. Gabriel scored moments later on a pass ball. Echo next scored when Zabransky walked forcing in Gregerson. Then Sobotta scored on a pass ball. Round then hit to the shortstop bringing in Zabransky. When the inning ended Echo led 11-3.
Umatilla scored two quick runs one on shot through short then on a pass ball. A grounder brought in the Vikings last run. Echo took single game 11-6.
