ECHO - The Echo Cougars swept the Pine Eagle Spartans 13-4 and 12-10 in a doubleheader on Friday, April 3, 2009. The afternoon was mostly sunny. Emma Gabriel pitched the first game for Echo.
In the second game Pine Eagle started off the top of the first with three runs. The first Spartan run came when a long hit to left field scored a runner from third. Then the next batter also hit a long shot into left field bringing in two runs. Pine Eagle had some shaky pitching in the bottom of the first allowing Echo came back with bases loaded when Ashley Gregerson was hit by a pitch driving in Katie Primmer. Next Ashlee Hodgen walked forcing in Emma Gabriel. Then Aubrey Summers was hit by a pitch forcing in Shilah Hilliard. Pitcher Alyssa Sobotta was walked forcing in Gregerson. Primmer was hit by a pitch forcing in Ashlee Hodgen. Rachel Round then hit to center field scoring Summers. When the dust settled at the end of the first Echo led 6-3.
The next action came in the bottom of the second when Summers hit to left field bringing in Hodgen. Then Sobotta hit to right field scoring Summers. Echo led 8-3.
Pine Eagle scored three runs in the top of the third closing the gap to 8-6.
Pine Eagle scored one run in the top of the fourth when a long ball to center field drove in a run.
Echo got the scoring again in the bottom of the fifth when Gabriel scored on a pass ball.
Pine Eagle scored a run in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth Echo scored when Primmer was driven in by Gabriel. Then Rachel Round scored when Shilah Hilliard hit deep into center field. Echo led at the end of six 12-8.
Pine Eagle tried to claw back in the top of the seventh scoring a run on hit to left field. A couple batters later another hit to left field drove in the final run of the game. Echo won 12-10.
