Stanfield Defeats Umatilla In Tight Game

Vikings win 3-1

STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers defeated the Umatilla Vikings 3-1 on Thursday, April 15, 2009. The winning pitcher was Trey Blevins the losing pitcher was Adrian Soto. Mike Fisher went 2-3 both of the hits being doubles. Reliever Quin Grogan for the Tigers had seven strikeouts. The was a nice sunny afternoon for the game.

Umatilla scored first in the top of the first.

The next scoring didn't occur until the bottom of the third inning. Stanfield's Trevor Morris started off the inning with a double to right field. Then with two out Devin Bailey hit to centerfield driving in Morris. Then Tyler Hawkins hit safely to the shortstop bringing in Bailey giving Stanfield the 2-1 lead.

Both teams put runners on base but couldn't bring them home to score in the fourth and fifth innings. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning Mike Fisher led off with a big hit to right field. Fisher then stole third base. Then with two out Fisher stole home on a pass ball giving Stanfield the 3-1 final score.

Umatilla was able to get two runners on base in the top of the seventh but couldn't get a score.
