HERMISTON - The Hermiston 11/12 year old baseball team won it's first game in the Little League baseball tournament against Willow Creek on Saturday.
Hermiston was the visitor in the game and went to bat first. RJ Robles laid down a bunt to get on base in the top of the first. Nychal Gritz hit a shot through thirdbase driving in Robles from second. Gritz was driven in from second on a Keith Anderson hit to rightfield. That gave Hermiston the 2-0 lead.
The next scoring came in the top of the second when Austin Monahan scored from third to give Hermiston the 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth Hermiston took a 4-0 lead when RJ Robles laid down a bunt allowing Monahan to score from third.
Hermiston's lead off batter Keegan Crafton in the top of fifth was hit by a pitch. Nychal Gritz came up and smashed a home run over the center field fence. That took Hermiston's lead to 6-0. Jay Lindeman grounded out with bases loaded driving in Cole Schwirse for the 7-0 lead.
Gritz drove in two more runs in the top of the sixth on hit to deep centerfield giving Hermiston the 9-0 lead. Then Schwirse scored from third on a pass ball to give Hermiston the 10-0 lead. Anderson then scored on another steal from third for the 11-0 Hemriston win.
