Hermiston Defeats Sisters In Little League Baseball Action

District 5 Little League Tournament - Hermiston won 11-1

HERMISTON - The Hermiston 11/12 year old boys Little League team defeated Sisters 11-1 on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Hermiston scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

Hermiston's Austin Monahan hit a grounder and made it safely to first to lead off the top of the second inning. Two batters later RJ Robles laid down a perfect bunt driving in Monahan and making it safely to first. Hermiston led 3-0.

Sisters was able to get a runner on base when a batter was hit by a pitch. He stole second and third base. A wild pitch allowed the runner to score. That meant Hermiston led by a score of 3-1.

Hermiston had a big inning in the top of the third when left handed Cole Schwirse blasted a homerun over the centerfield fence. Hermiston's Chase Root and Tony Green made it to base and were on second and third when Jay Lindeman came up to bat. Lindeman hit a line drive homer over the centerfield fence. That made the score 7-1. Robles hit a double then Cody Cummings hit a shot to rightfield scoring Robles and giving Hermiston the 8-1 lead. With Cummings on second and Nychal Gritz on first Schwirse hit a long fly to rightfield scoring the two runners. That gave Hermiston the 10-1 lead.

The last score in the game came in the top of the fifth when Jay Lindeman blasted a one run homerun over the centerfield fence. That made the score 11-1 giving Hermiston the win following the bottom of the fifth under the ten run rule.
