Posted Tuesday September 15, 2009

BOARDMAN - The Riverside Pirates hosted the LaGrande Tigers in a woman's soccer match on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The Pirates won 2-1.

LaGrande took the early lead in the first half of the match. Relentless offensive pressure by the Pirates led to their first score with 23 minutes to go in the first half. The shot that tied the score at 1-1 came from the left of the goalie by Amy Kegler. Kegler drove about half way into the box before blasting the shot past the LaGrande goalie.

The teams pounded up and down the pitch for the first 24 minutes of the second half with no one scoring. Finally, with 16:48 to go in the match, Amy Kegler snaked her way from her outside forward spot to the middle of the box and sent a rocket into the net for the Pirates second goal.

LaGrande had one penalty kick in the closing minutes but the Pirates blocked that and continued to control the ball for the balance of the match.
