Stanfield Defeats Enterprise

STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers defeated the Enterprise Outlaws 63-53 on Saturday, January 16, 2010. It was an uphill battle for the Tigers as they were down by three at halftime and by five at the end of the third. The first period was back and forth at the lead was exchanged six times. Enterprise then outscored Stanfield 19 to 11 in the second period. Enterprise then scored 15 in the third while Stanfield scored 13. Stanfield finally steadied themselves and outscored Enterprise 19 to 4 in the fourth to take the 63-53 ten point win. Mike Crawford, the Outlaws coach became frustrated during the fourth period as his team couldn't keep up with the Tigers.

The game started off in the first period with the lead going back and forth between the Tigers and Outlaws. The Outlaws scored first on a freethrow by Jacob Girtz. Chase Erwert scored for the Tigers on a followup. Then Mario Madrigal hit a freethrow to give Stanfield the 3-1 lead. Then Matt Perren and Jacob Micka scored giving the Outlaws the 5-3 lead. That was just in the first two minutes. The teams went back and forth until Stanfield took the 15-14 lead on a trey by Devin Bailey. The first of two three pointers for Bailey. Stanfield led 20-15 at the end of the first.

Stanfield led for most of the second period. Tigers scoring in the second included Trey Blevins, Mario Madrigal, Quinton Grogan, and Derek Monkus. Then with 1:30 to go in the half Jared Micka of the Outlaws stole the ball and drove in for a layup to tie the score at 29. Thirty seconds later Micka was back at the foul line and hit both freethrows to give Enterprise the 31-29 lead. Moments a later a technical against Stanfield and Micka hit three of four freethrows. Enterprise led at halftime 34-31.

The third period started off with Stanfield's Quinton Grogan making seven points in the opening three minutes. Along with Chase Erwert the two scored nine points to give the Tigers the 40-38 lead. The Outlaws' Kyle Stangel shot gave them the 42-40 lead. Stanfield's Bailey hit a layup and freethrow to close to within tw at 44-46. Tyler Micka of the Outlaws then nailed a trey with a second to go in the third to give Enterprise the 49-44 lead.

The fourth period was a good one for Quinton Grogan. Grogan scored 12 points in the fourth to help drive the Tigers to the 51-50 lead and onward to their ten point win. Enterprise went over six minutes with only scoring a freethrow. The Outlaws couldn't come out of their dry spell. Enterprise tried fouling in the last minute and all that did was allow the Tigers to score five more points. When the final buzzer sounded Stanfield had won 63-53.
