HERMISTON - The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Summit Storm 41-34 on Saturday, January 23, 2010. The Storm took the opening tip and held onto the ball for the entire duration of the first period. It was like watching college basketball before the shot clock was put into effect. The Storm kept the ball moving and occasionally would work it in close to the basket only to turn and and kick it back outside. The Storm picked up the pace of the passing in the last minute of the period. In the last thirty seconds it was obvious that they were working the ball for a shot opportunity. They finally let fly with a three point attempt with five seconds to go. It hit iron and bounced high above the backboard.

Hermiston's Kathryn Barnitz broke the ice 24 seconds into the second period to give the Dawgs the 2-0 lead. Summit came back and tied it at 2 on a shot by Jesse Luersen. Andrea Waters of Hermiston nailed a three to give Hermiston the 5-2 lead. Summit battle back to tie it up half way through the second. Over the next two minutes the teams exchanged the lead. Hermiston went cold with 1:36 to go and Summit scored five to take a 15-10 haltime lead.

Summit went cold for the first five minutes in the third period allowing Hermiston to score ten points and take a 20-10 lead. Hermiston continued continued to score seven more points during the rest of the third. Hermiston led 27-20 at the end of the third.

Both teams went into a more normal back and forth basketball game during the fourth period. Both teams scored 14 points during the fourth with Hermiston continuing to maintain a strong lead. Hermiston won by seven 41-34.

Hermiston's top scorers were Maloree Moss and Courney Walchli each with 11. Andrea Waters had six and Kathryn Barnitz had three. Top scorer for Summit was Taylor Pierce with eight. Jesse Luersen and Bre Wilson each had seven.
