Pendleton Defeats Hermiston

Pendleton won 57-49

HERMISTON - The Pendleton Bucks defeated the Hermiston Bulldogs 57-49 on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. The Bucks led from the opening tip to the closing buzzer. Pendleton played an uptempo athletic game. The Bucks had nine seniors to Hermiston's younger team that only had four.

Pendleton got their first points when Tyler Simpson sank two freethrows 45 seconds into the first period. The big scorer in the first for the Bucks was Devon Polhamus with 8 points. Hermiston was stuck at two points for the first 4:20 of period. Scoring for Hermiston came from Rylie Smith, Alex Boedigheimer and Austin Boedigheimer. Pendleton led at the end of the first 15-7.

Hermiston outscored Pendleton 15-13 in the second period but were still 6 points behind the Bucks at halftime. Austin Boedigheimer opened the scoring for the Dawgs with a steal of an inbound pass and went all the way for a layup. Kurt Simmons hit two treys in the middle of the period. Trevor Phillips also hit a three for the Dawgs. The Bucks stayed consistant with a period for Lamar Fairley, Tyler Simpson and Shannon Hartley scoring. The Bucks led at haltime 28-22.

Hermiston once again outscored Pendleton 15-14 in the third but the Bucks consistancy of play kept them from giving up too many points. It was another big period for Pendleton's Pulhamus as he hit five shots. Bulldogs connecting included Austin Boedigheimer, Smith, Simmons, and Phillips. Pendleton led by five at the end of the third, 42-37.

The fourth period was a big one for Pendleton's Lamar Fairley as he hit four shots and three freethrows. Also scoring for the Bucks were Tyler Simpson, Travis Jones, and Polhamus. Hermiston's Kurt Simmons hit a trey about two and a half minutes into the period. Simmons worked the baseline for a layup. Alex Boedigheimer hit a shot with 33 seconds to go. Pendleton's last five points were on freethrows. Pendleton won 57-49.
