HERMISTON - The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Bend Lava Bears 44-36 on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Forty-two of the 44 points came from the starting five for Hermiston. Top scorer for the Dawgs was Kathryn Barnitz with 13. Maloree Moss and Crystal Schmidt each had 10. Courtney Walchli had six points. Top scorer overall was Karleigh Taylor with 15.
The teams started out the game exchanging the lead in the opening three minutes. The score at that point was 4-4. At that point the Bend shooting went cold but Hermiston kept on rolling with Crystal Schmidt scoring four points. Maloree Moss and Kayla Blankenship each made two. Hermiston led at the end of the first 12-4.
Hermiston maintained their domination in the second period outscoring Bend 8-6. Scoring for Hermiston came from Schmidt, Walchli, Moss, and Barnitz. Hermiston led at halftime 20-10.
Bend outscored Hermiston in the third 9-8 but the Dawgs still maintained a dominent lead. Moss and Barnitz both hit treys for the Dawgs. Scoring for the Lava Bears came from Karleigh Taylor, Kenzi Boehme and Ally McConnell. Hermiston led at the end of the third 28-19.
Bend once again outscored the Dawgs 17-16 in the fourth. The number of fouls went up in the fourth with Hermiston going to the line seven times and Bend four times. Bend had three pointers from by Ashley Penington and Kenzi Boehme. Scoring for Hermiston were Andrea Waters, Moss, Barnitz, and Walchli. Hermiston won 44-36.
