Helix Lady Grizzlies Defeat Echo Cougars

ECHO - The Helix Lady Grizzlies defeated the Echo Cougars 56-38 on Saturday, February 6, 2010. The Lady Grizzlies led most of the game except for two minutes of the first period. The leading scorer overall was Kylee Rogers of Helix with 28 points. Elisabeth Ferge had 12 and Taylor Tarvin had 10 for Echo.

Echo came roaring out of the opening tip with Ferge scoring the first six points. Helix took the lead 8-6 on a shot by Clare Ely and they never gave the lead after that. Other Cougars scoring in the first were Kristen McCallum and Ryanne Tarvin. Grizzlies scoring in the first included Kylee Rogers who hit two three pointers, and Addie Terjeson. Helix led 16-12 at the end of the first.

Helix outscored Echo 13-8 in the second period. Scoring for the Grizzlies in the second included Megan Schroeder, Chyanne Hack, Ely, and Rogers. Cougars scoring in the second came from Katelyn Elligsen, Lauren Elligsen, and Ferge. Helix led at halftime 29-20.

Echo outscored Helix 9-7 in the third. Scoring for the Cougars came from Taylor Tarvin, Shilah Hilliard, Lauren Elligsen, and Ferge. Grizzlies scoring came from Schroeder, Ely, and Rogers. Helix led at the end of the third 36-29.

The Grizzlies outscored Echo 20-9 in the fourth. Helix players scoring in the fourth included Rogers, Ely, Terjeson, and Hack. Cougars scoring in the fourth included Lauren Elligsen, Taylor Tarvin, and Hilliard.

Both teams were a little sloppy with their shots and layups. Helix hit 35% and Echo 29% from the field. Helix was hot with the three pointers hitting 6/11 for 54.5%. Echo was 2/5 for 40% from the three point arc.
