STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers defeated the Irrigon Tigers 69-27 on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Irrigon took an early lead in the first only to see it evaporate late in the first as Stanfield controlled the boards on both ends of the court.
The Irrigon Knights started off the game well scoring the first four points on shots by Jose Romero and Francisco Nunez. The Tigers came back with scoring by Stephen Whelan from the baseline and Mario Madrigal with a steal and layup. The teams alternated scoring with the teams tied 8-8 with 52 seconds to go. Stanfield's Ryan Griffin and Robbie Shirley scored two each give the Tigers the 12-8 lead at the end of the first.
Stanfield scored 27 points in the second period. Irrigon scraped together 7 after being held scoreless for over half the period. Scoring for the Tigers came from Quinton Grogan, Trey Blevins, Devin Bailey, Robbie Shirley, Griffin, and Blevins. Knights scoring included Ramon Leon, Jesus Munoz and Francisco Nunez. Stanfield led at halftime 36-15.
Tigers putting up points in the third included Grogan and Bailey. Among the scorers for the Knights were Munoz and Nunez. Stanfield led at the end of three 47-21.
Stanfield scored 22 points in the fourth. They came from Derek Monkus, Sergio Bautista, Brandon Castro, Blevins, Grogan, Bailey, and Madrigal. Irrigon's points came from Munoz and Nunez. Stanfield won the game 69-27 as they near the end of the season and a berth at the district playoffs at Pendleton.
