UMATILLA - The Riverside Pirates defeated the Umatilla Vikings 55-31 on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Marco Carranza of Riverside hit 13 shots overall during the game. Riverside led from the opening tip and dominated play throughout the game.
Carranza started the scoring for Riverside when he scored the first six points for the Pirates. Other Pirates scoring in the first were Matt Hyder with a trey and Omar Murillo hit two freethrows. Kiko Campos scored the first points for Umatilla. Riverside led at the end of the first 11-5.
Riverside outscored Umatilla 9-7 in the second period. Umatilla's scoring came from German Campos, Andres Sanguino and Kiko Campos. The Pirates had scoring from Murillo, Carranza, Hyder and Ruiz. Riverside led at halftime 20-12.
Both teams went on a scoring binge in the third period with Riverside outscoring Umatilla 17-14. Vikings scoring included Jorge Campos, German Campos, Kiko Campos and Sanguino. Riverside's scoring came from Jason Hendricks, Tanner Wightman, Carranza, Hyder and Ruiz. Riverside led at the end of the third 37-26.
Riverside kept up the scoring in fourth with 18 points. Umatilla cooled off dramatically only scoring five points in the period. Even with the Umatilla crowd's voices reverberating through the Pit the Vikings couldn't increase their percentage in the final period. Scoring for the Vikings came from Kiko Campos and German Campos. Pirates scoring came from Carranza, Hyder, Cain Murillo and Chase Simpson. Riverside won 55-31.
