HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Madison Senators 58-41 on Friday, March 5, 2010. The Bulldogs second round win moved them into the elite 8 of the OSAA 5A state playoffs. The Dawgs will play the Wilsonville Wildcats at Mac Court in Eugene on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 3:15PM. Top scorers for Hermiston were Kathryn Barnitz, Andrea Waters, Courtney Walchli and Maloree Moss. Overall eleven Hermiston players scored in the game. Top scorers for Madison were Makeyda Ross, Zoe Kimball and Emilie Wright.
Andrea Waters opened scoring in the first with a three pointer in the opening seconds of the first period. Makeyda Ross came right back and hit a two point jumper. The teams were slow to score but it was a good period for Waters as she scored seven points. Ross for Madison scored six. The teams were tied 10-10 at the end of the first.
Scoring for Hermiston in the second came from Saraya Wise, Kelli Jones, Walchli and Barnitz. Madison scoring came from Kimball with six and Wright. Hemriston outscored Madison 13-8 in the second pulling away to a 23-18 lead at halftime.
Hermiston outscored Madison 13-12 in the third. Bulldog scoring came from Mary Barnett, Gracie Flyg, Barnitz, Walchli, Waters and Moss. Hermiston led at the end of three 36-30.
Hermiston turned on the scoring spigot in the fourth outscoring Madison 22-11. It was a tough quarter for Madison's Makeyda Ross. She collapsed grabbing her left leg at the midway point of the fourth. She went out and didn't return to the game. Bulldogs scoring in the fourth were Brooke Davis, Crystal Schmidt, Jeni Hoffert, Moss, Barnitz, Moss, Walchli and Wise. Madison scorers included Ashley Holten, Kimball and Wright. Hermiston won 58-41.
Hermiston goes on now to play the Wilsonville Wildcats on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Mac Court in Eugene at 3:15PM. Hermiston has done very well this season, overcoming the loss of two starters to injury and still continuing to win consistantly.
