Post Falls won 2-0 and 12-7

HERMISTON - The Post Falls Trojans swept the Hermiston Bulldogs in softball action on Friday, March 19, 2010. The Trojans won the first game 2-0 and the second game 12-7. It was a nice day for softball under sunny skies, a light breeze and a temperature in the mid 60s.

Game 1
The starting pitcher for Hermiston in the first game was Paige Long. Post Falls scored first in the top of the first with one out when a hit to centerfield scored a runner from third. Moments later a runner was tagged at home by catcher Courtney Howard. Finally a long flyout to left field ended the top of the first with the score 1-0 for Post Falls. Hermiston's Melina Rodriguez hit to deep centerfield. She was left at second when a flyout brought the inning to an end with Post Falls leading 1-0.

Post Falls started the top of the second with a line out and a strikeout. Then on a hit to leftfield Jennifer Paxton racing to catch the ball ended up leaping and rolling over on her shoulder. Play stopped while she was looked over and was taken out of the game. Paxton's shoulder was not dislocated and she returned later in the game. Hermiston's pitcher Paige Long then struck out the last batter for Post Falls. Hermiston went three up and three down in the bottom of the second inning.

Post Falls went three up and three down in the top of the third inning with two groundouts and a flyout. Hermiston was able to put two runners on base in the bottom of the third but were unable to score a run. Post Falls led 2-0 at the end of the third.

Post Falls started off the top of the fourth with two hits in a row putting two runners on. Following a strikeout the fourth batter hit a grounder that drove in a runner from third making the score 2-0 for the Trojans. In the bottom of the fourth Hermiston had two batters strikeout. The third out came on a ground out fielded by the secondbaseman and throw to first for the out.

In the fifth it was three up and three down for Post Falls and Hermiston as neither team was even able to get a runner on base.

Top of the sixth saw Post Falls have three straight outs. In the bottom of the sixth Hermiston had a strikeout and a groundout. Melina Rodriguez of the Dawgs got on base with a hit through secondbase. She was stranded there when the next batter struck out.

Post Falls got a runner on base in the top of the seventh but they were left on second when the next batter struck out. Hermiston still had the opportunity to put some runs on the board. Courtney Howard flewout to right field then Mykel Liebe grounded out on an infield hit. Maloree Moss struck out to end the first game of the doubleheader. Post Falls won 2-0.

Game 2
After the 30 minute break the teams returned to the field for the second game of the doubleheader. The starting pitcher for the Dawgs in the second game was Megann Galloway. Post Falls started off the first by getting a runner on base with two out. The next batter grounded out. The bottom of the first started off with Andrea Waters walking. A ground ball by Jennifer Paxton was thrown to second picking off Waters. Melina Rodriguez was then hit by a pitch and took first. Paige Long then walked loading the bases. Hanna Findley then connected for a basehit driving in Paxton and Rodriguez. Hermiston took the 2-0 lead. Next up for the Dawgs was Courtney Howard who hit scoring Long and Findley giving Hermiston the 4-1 lead. A groundout ended the inning with Hermiston leading 4-0.

Neither team scored in the second inning.

Post Falls came alive in the top of the third. A long hit to leftfield drove in a runner for the Trojans. Next a hit to centerfield drove in a runner from third. Hermiston still led 4-2. A couple batters later the batter crushed a shot to centerfield driving in two runs tieing it up at 4-4. Hermiston came back in the bottom of the third with two runners on base with a hit by Courtney Howard driving in Long to take a 5-4 lead.

In the top of the fourth a long hit to centerfield for the Trojans drove in a run tieing it up 5-5. Two batters later a hit to left field drove in the sixth run for Post Falls. Next a grounder drove in another run for the Trojans. With the score 7-5 the next batter hit a roller in front of homeplate that allowed another run to score. The Trojans led at that point 8-5. The Trojans had one more score when a runner stole home giving Post Falls the 9-5 lead midway through the fourth inning. Hermiston put a runner on base in the bottom of the fourth but couldn't get anything going.

Post Falls scored a run in the top of the fifth on a grounder to push their lead to 10-5. Hermiston went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth.

Post Falls put a runner on first with two out but couldn't score in the top of the sixth. Hermiston was able to put Howard, Liebe and Moss on base in the bottom of the sixth but couldn't get a score. Post Falls led at the end of the sixth 10-5.

Post Falls scored in the top of the seventh on a long hit to centerfield making the score 11-5. A grounder for the Trojans scored their twelth run in the top of the seventh. Hermiston got things going in the bottom of the seventh when Long got on base with a grounder. Findley then hit a ground ball that scored Long making the score 12-6 in favor of Post Falls. A grounder by Cheyenne Lawson drove in Findley for the Dawgs final score of the game. Post Falls won 12-7.
