HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Chiawana Riverhawks in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The Bulldogs won 14-4 and 8-3. Chiawana is a new high school in Pasco. The team is made up of underclassman since seniors remained at Pasco High.
Game 1
There was no scoring until the bottom of the second inning when Hermiston finally got
things going. Hermiston's lead off batter Travis Bratton flew out to center field.
Booter Lewis and Tim Rude then walked. Brad Morton then hit a drive up the middle
scoring Lewis and Rude and giving Hermiston the 2-0 lead. Justin Jones then hit a
grounder and made it to first and advancing Morton to third. Tyler Schwirse then
hit to left field driving in Morton stretching the lead to 3-0. Jacob Almaguer then walked.
Vaughan Hawkins came up to bat with Schwirse and Almaguer on base. Hawkins hit to the
shortstop and was safe at first scoring Schwirse. Almaguer then scored on a pass ball to
Jeremy Holden. That was the last score of the bottom of the second for Hermiston and
they led 5-0.
Chiawana put a man on base but couldn't move him home in the top of the third inning. Hermiston scored Lewis on an Almaguer hit in the gap to left field in the bottom of the third inning. Then Morton and Trevor Phillips scored for the dogs. Finally Hawkins scored on a pass ball. Hermiston led 10-0 at the end of the third inning.
Chiawana scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 10-1 for the Dawgs.
The Riverhawks then scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning making the Dawgs lead 10-4. The Bulldogs put four runs on the board in the bottom fo the fifth. The first run for Hermiston came on a hit by Almaguer that scored Phillips. Almaguer then scored on a ground out by Jeremy Holden to take a 12-4 lead. Hawkins then scored on a pass ball. The final score for Hermiston in the first game was when Booter Lewis hit down the third base line to score Travis Bratton from third. Hermiston won under the ten run rule 14-4 at 6:03PM.
Game 2
The second game began at 6:32PM with the sun setting in the west. Chiawana scored one run
in the top of the first inning to take the 1-0 lead.
Chiawana next scored two runs in the top of the third inning taking a 3-0 lead. Hermiston got things going in the bottom of the third inning a Hawkins hit to center field scored Morton and Almaguer and closing the gap to 3-2. Holden then walked and Tyler Andreason hit down the third base line scoring Hawkins and Holden giving Hermiston the 4-3 lead.
Hermiston's next scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the fourth with two out. Hawkins and Holden scored then Andreason hit to deep left field. That give the Dawgs the 6-3 lead.
The next scoring for Hermiston came in the bottom of the sixth. Almaguer scored from third on a Holden hit through the gap into left field to make the score 7-3. Lewis then hit into center field scoring Holden to make the score 8-3.
That was the last score in the game. Hermiston took the 8-3 win giving them three home game wins in the past week.
