IRRIGON - The Irrigon lady Knights softball team had a good day Saturday, April 10, 2010. The Knights sweeped the Weston McEwen Tiger Scots 4-0 and 9-2 in the doubleheader. The day was breezy with hazy clouds making for a bright but cool afternoon.
Scoring in the second game of the doubleheader began in the bottom of the first inning. Marrissa Stanger led off the Knights half of the inning with a walk. Ariel Schock then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Stanger to second. Noelle Wright then came up to bat and blasted a shot to center field scoring Stanger. Leslie Coffman then came up and hit to center field driving in courtesy runner Amber Kramer and giving Irrigon the 2-0 lead. Jessica Henrichs then walked putting two Knights on base. Staci Stanger was the next to get on base on a grounder to third base and a late throw to first. Coffman scored giving Irrigon the 3-0 lead at the end of the first.
Irrigon was again successful scoring in the bottom of the second. Lead off batter Madisyn Cadek got on base with a hit to center field. A grounder by Marissa Stanger drove in Cadek giving Irrigon the 4-0 lead. Noelle Wright was the next Knight to get on base with a hit to left field. Coffman then came up and hit to right field. With courtesy runner Kramer and Coffman on second and third Henrichs hit to center field scoring the two runners and giving Irrigon the 6-0 lead.
Irrigon scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ariel Schock led off the bottom of the fourth with a hit to deep center field. Noelle Wright then hit to deep left field allowing Schock to score Irrigon's seventh run.
The next scoring run occured in the bottom of the fifth when Irrigon's Alisha Mego walked. Staci Stanger laid down another sacrifice bunt moving Mego over to second. McKenney then hit to left field scoring Mego. Two batters later Marissa Stanger hit to right field scoring courtesy runner Emilie McKenney from second. The two runs pushed Irrigon's lead to 9-0.
Weston McEwen finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth with a sac bunt scroing a runner from third. A hit to right field then scored next run. Irrigon led 9-2 half way through the sixth inning.
No other runs were scored in the remaining innings of the game.
