HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Bend Lava Bears 13-10 in lacrosse action on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Calvin Peterson was the leading scorer with seven goals for Hermiston. The win gave Hermiston an overall record of 4-4 and a High Desert conference record of 4-1.
Hermiston's Tanner Fraser scored in the first minute of the first quarter. It was Fraser's only goal and he left the game in the second half with an injury. Bend got on the board with about four and half minutes to go tieing it up at 1-1. Just seconds later Mutt Cecil scored for the Dawgs. Then Calvin Peterson scored the first of his seven goals at the 2:11 mark of the first. Hermiston led at the end of the first 3-1.
Bend had a player tear things up over a three minute span of the middle of the second period. The hat trick gave Bend the 4-3 lead with five minutes to go in the half. Peterson then scored for Hermiston at the 4:37 mark to tie it at 4-4.
Bend started off the third period with a score in the first 30 seconds. Hermiston then scored three goals over a four minute stretch. The first to score for the Dawgs in the second half was Tyler Hoffert at 9:04. Then came a goal by Peterson at 5:52. Finally Anthony May scored at 4:56 to give Hermiston the 7-5 lead. Bend came back at about the four minute mark and scored three goals in about one and a half minutes taking the lead back at 8-7. Hermiston capped off the third period with a goal by Kyler Records to tie things up at 8-8.
Hermiston came out blazing in the fourth period. The Dawgs went on a four goal scoring tear from 9:44 to 5:59. The ninth goal for Hermiston was scored by Tyler Hoffert. The next three goals came from Calvin Peterson pushing Hermiston's lead to 12-8. Bend scored then scored at 5:17. Hermiston took the faceoff and scored at 5:10 by Peterson for his seventh goal. Hermiston led 13-9. Bend scored the final goal in the closing seconds of the game. Hermiston won 13-10.
