Hermiston Sweeps Bend

Hermiston won 6-1 and 13-3

HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs swept the Bend Lava Bears in a softball doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, 2010. This moves Hermiston to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the IMC. Hermiston won the first game 6-1 and the second game 13-3. It was a sunny, warm day with the temperature around 70 degrees.

Paige Long pitched for Hermiston in the first game. Picking up action in the bottom of the third inning with Hermiston leading 4-1. A hit to deep center field scored a runner from third making the score 5-1.

Jennifer Paxton led off the bottom of the fourth with a hit to right field. Courtney Howard got on base safely with a grounder. Paxton then scored from third on a flyout giving Hermiston the final score of 6-1.

Game 2
The second game's pitcher for Hermiston Megann Galloway. Hermiston got their first score in the bottom of the first when the Lava Bears attempted to pick off Andrea Waters at third and overthrew the fielder. Hermiston then scored two runs late in the bottom and were penalized for a batter out of order. Hermiston led midway through the first 3-0.

Hermiston's next scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the second. Maloree Moss led off the bottom with a walk. A grounder by Waters and a flyout by Paxton got her around to third. An attempted pickoff of the runner from first allowed Moss to score. Making the score 4-0. A long flyout to center field allowed Waters to score making the score 5-0.

The Lava Bears finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when the runner on third scored on a pass ball. That made the score 5-1.

Bend scored again in the top of of the fifth when a walk forced in a run from third. Hermiston led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk by Melina Rodriguez. With two runners on Maloree Moss came up and hit to left field scoring two making the score 7-2. A fly out to center field scored Moss giving Hermiston the 8-2 lead at the end of the fifth.

Bend scored in the top of the sixth when a hit scored a runner from third making the score 8-3.

Hermiston scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gracie Flyg started things off with a grounder to center field. Next Cheyenne Lawson walked. Then a hit to center field scored Flyg and Lawson making the score 10-3. Hermiston put a second runner on base with little roller that had runners on the corners. A runner scored on a throwing error giving the Dawgs the 11-3 lead. A hit to center field drove in another run. Maloree Moss was the final runner to score from third on a shot to right field. Hermiston won 13-3 under the ten run rule.
