STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers swept the Gilliam Wheeler Knights in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The Tigers won the first game 10-5 and the second game 20-0 in five innings under the ten run rule.
Game 2
Explosive is one way to describe the Tiger's second game of the doubleheader.
Stanfield led 9-0 at the end of the first inning. Stanfield then started scoring
again in bottom of the second inning. Trevor Morris led off by being hit by a
pitch. Then Shaun Milbrodt hit to center field. Raul Mendola also hit to center
field driving in Morris. Tyler Hawkins then hit to left field scoring Milbrodt.
Mario Madrigal then hit to right field scoring Mendola. Trey Blevins hit a grounder
to short but the throw was a little off making Blevins safe at first and scoring
Hawkins and Madrigal. Blevins stole third and then home on a pass ball. Stanfield
was leading 15-0 at that time. Brandon Castro hit a grounder that drove in a
run. Derek Monkus who got on base by being hit by a pitch stole home on a pass ball.
Stanfield led at the end of the second 17-0.
Stanfield scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Blevins got on base by being hit by a pitch. Quinton Grogan got on base with a grounder down the third base line. Monkus hit to centerfield driving in Blevins and Grogan. Milbrodt hit to right field scoring Monkus. That gave Stanfield the 20-0 lead at the end of the third.
The game play tightened up in the fourth and top of the fifth. Tiger pitcher Milbrodt and his fielders didn't allow a score even though Gilliam-Wheeler was able to load the bases in the top of the fourth. Gilliam-Wheeler led off the top of the fifth with a walk but then a line out to the pitcher Milbrodt who then threw to second to pickoff the runner. A fly out to left field ended the game. Stanfield won 20-0 in the fifth under the ten run rule.
