Riverside And Umatilla Split Doubleheader

Umatilla won game 1 9-3 / Riverside won game 2 16-10

UMATILLA - The Riverside Pirates and Umatilla Vikings split a doubleheader on Friday, April 30, 2010. Umatilla won the first game 9-3. Riverside won the second game 16-10. The afternoon started out sunny and fairly nice. However the weather deteriorated over the course of the doubleheader with increasing clouds and the wind picking up to 10 to 15 m.p.h.

Game 2
Umatilla got on the board first in the bottom of the first in the second game. Taylor Pankey and Andres Sanguino scored on a long fly ball to deep left field by Justin Vandever. Next up Bridger Hurley hit to left field scoring Vandever and giving Umatilla the 3-0 lead.

The next scoring came in the bottom of the second when Vandever hit to deep left field in a replay of the bottom of the first. Just like in the first inning the hit drove in Pankey and Sanguino. Giving Umatilla the 5-0 lead.

Riverside got on the board in the top of the third. Setting up the score was Cain Murillo who made it to first base on a grounder and Cody Fredrickson was hit by a pitch. Jovanny Llamas then hit to short right field scoring Murillo and Fredrickson. Umatilla then led 5-2.

Umatilla scored in the bottom of the third when Kile Wilson hit to center field scoring Adrian Soto and giving Umatilla the 6-2 lead.

Riverside's Trevor Graff led off the top of the fourth with a hit to center field. Cain Murillo got on a base with a pop fly that fell safely. Forrest Guenther then hit to deep left field scoring Graff and Murillo closing Umatilla's lead to 6-4. Evan Keefer then hit to the shortstop who threw home but Guenther made it safely to score. Cody Fredrickson then laid down a bunt safely getting to first. Jovanny Llamas hit to short driving in Keefer and evening the score at 6-6. Harley Orcutt hit safely to drive in Fredrickson and take the 7-6 lead. Matt Hyder then hit into a potential doubleplay. Umatilla only got the lead runner which allowed Llamas to score and give Riverside the 8-6 lead.

Umatilla scored in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Pankey hit to deep left field scoring Sanguino. After working his way to third, Pankey then stole home on a pass ball to tie the score at 8-8.

Riverside's Cain Murillo got on base with a hit to left field to start off the top of the fifth. Murillo then scored on a grounder by Evan Keefer. A hit to right field by Cody Fredrickson scored Forrest Guenther. and gave Riverside the 10-8 lead. Llamas then hit a grounder driving in Keefer. Next up Harley Orcutt hit to left field scoring Fredrickson. A long fly out to center field by Matt Hyder scored Orcutt. Riverside led 13-8 at the end of the fifth inning.

Riverside next scored in the top of the sixth. Cody Fredrickson got on base with a hit to short. Jovanny Llamas then hit to left field driving in Fredrickson and giving Riverside the 14-8 lead. Matt Hyder hit to left field scoring Llamas. Riverside led midway through the sixth 15-8.

Umatilla scored in the bottom of the sixth when Kile Wilson hit to center field scoring Justin Vandever. Riverside led at the end of the sixth 15-9.

Riverside scored in the top of the seventh when Forrest Guenther grounded out driving in Omar Murillo. The Pirates led at that point 16-9.

Bryce Kennedy led off Umatilla's bottom of the seventh with a walk. Kennedy worked his way to third base, ultimately scoring on a pass ball. Riverside won by a final score of 16-10.
