HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated The Dalles Wahtonka Eagle Indians 77-47 on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Hermiston's control of the ball and clock once again allowed them to dominate the pace of the game.
The first period went out to an 8-0 lead in the first three and half minutes. Joey Burns got things going for the Bulldogs with a three pointer in the opening minute of play. Kurt Simmons then hit two freethrows to give the Dawgs a 5-0 lead. Trevor Phillips then hit a jumper. TDW finally scored on a freethrow. Hermiston continued to control the ball and clock and held TDW to just three points in the first period. Hermiston led at the end of the first 14-3.
Hermiston continued to control the pace of the game in the second period as they outscored TDW 22-8. Leading the scoring for the Dawgs in the second period were Kurt Simmons with two three pointers in the and single treys by Joey Burns and Trevor Phillips. Hermiston led at halftime 36-11.
TDW outscored Hermiston 19-16 in the third period but all that did was a minor chipping away at the Dawgs' lead. Hermiston didn't loose momentum with Trevor Phillips and Brandan Eckhardt still tossing in three pointers and the team hitting four foul s hots. Hermiston led at the end of the third 52 to 30.
Hermiston had solid scoring in the fourth. The Dawgs out shot TDW 25-17 stretch their winning lead to 30 points. Scoring for the Dawgs in the fourth were Trevor Phillips, Ryan Ross, Joey Burns, Jordan Turner, Riley Humphrey and Sterling Hall. Hermiston won the game 77-47.
