Umatilla Defeated Irrigon

Umatilla won 21-7 by 10 run rule

UMATILLA - The Umatilla Vikings defeated the Irrigon Knights 21-7 in the fifth inning by the 10 run rule on Monday, April 25, 2011. It was a cool and blustery day with a temperature at about game time of 50 degrees and a 30 mph wind. The game wasn't dominated by Umatilla until the bottom of the third when the Vikings scored 13 runs.

The first scoring of the game occured in the bottom of the first. Among the scoring For Umatilla was Andres Sanguino who scored from third on a pass ball. Justin Vandever scored from third on a big hit by Brandon Williams. Williams and Nick Snyder scored on a hit by Bryce Kennedy. Umatilla led at the end of the first 4-0.

Irrigon scored a run in the top of the second on a deep flyout to right field that scored a runner from third.

In the bottom of the second Umatilla's Jaimen Garza led off with a walk. Two outs later Garza was on third when Justin Vandever and Zach Ash walked to fill the bases. A grounder by Brandon Williams drove in Garza and Vandever. Kile Wilson then hit to left field scoring Ash and Williams. Umatilla led at the end of the second 8-1.

Irrigon scored a run in the top of the third on a long fly out.

The bottom of the third was a big one for Umatilla as they scored 13 runs. The bottom of the inning took about 45 minutes to play. Lead off batter Nick Snyder was hit by a pitch. Snyder worked his way around the bases. During Andres Sanguino's at bat a pass ball allowed Snyder to score. The next three batters walked, Andres Sanguino, Bridger Hurley and Justin Vandever filling the bases. Irrigon swapped pitchers. Sanguino scored on a pass ball. John Wilson then scored on a pass ball. Brandon Williams hit to right field scoring Vandever and Ash. Bryce Kennedy was hit by a pitch. Nick Snyder then hit to right field scoring Williams and Wilson. A balk then scored Kennedy from third. Nick Snyder then scored on a wild throw. Andres Sanguino hit to right field to get on base. Sanguino worked his way around the bases during Hurley's at bat. A pass ball allowed Sanguino to score. Hurley, Vandever and Ash walked reloading the bases with two out. Brandon Williams hit to left field scoring Wilson, Vandever and Ash. That was it for scoring as the next batter was hit by a pitch and the last batter struck out. Umatilla led at the end of the third 21-2.

Irrigon scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Irrigon got the runs after they had two outs. The runs came off grounders, walks and some nice base running.

Umatilla did not score in the bottom of the fourth. Umatilla led 21-6 at the end of the fourth inning.

Irrigon scored a run in the top of the fifth on a bad throw into right field. Then with a runner on third and one out two quick strike outs ended the game.

Umatilla won 21-7.
