HERMISTON - The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Wilsonville Wildcats in the OSAA 5A play in game. The Bulldogs won 12-1 in five innings on Friday, May 20, 2011 and will reportedly play on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 4PM at Hermiston in a playoff game. Hermiston only has one senior on the team. The rest of the team is made up of five juniors, six sophomores and two freshman
The day was sunny with a temperature of 75 degrees at game time.
The Hermiston Bulldogs had a good bottom of the first scoring 5 runs. The bottom of the inning started off with the first two batters flying out. The third batter Gracie Flyg then hit to leftfield. Next up Courtney Howard hit a single to leftfield a bad throw by Wilsonville let the runners advance one base. Paige Long then walked filling the bases for the Dawgs. Cheyanne Lawson then hit to leftfield scoring Flyg. Jennifer Paxton then hit to rightfield scoring Howard and Long. Hermiston led 3-0 with two out. Mykel Liebe then hit to leftfield scoring Lawson and Paxton and giving Hermiston the 5-0 lead at the end of the first.
Hermiston scored one run in the bottom of the second off a home run by Maloree Moss. The Dawgs led at the end of the second 6-0.
The Wilsonville Wildcats scored in the top of the third. Sarah Roberts led off with a walk. Then Nicole Gearhart popped out. Hannah Burke walked. Nicole Gearhart then hit to short scoring Sarah Roberts.
Hermiston led 6-1 when they came to bat in the bottom of the third. Paige Long hit a double to leftfield to lead off the bottom of the third. Cheyanne Lawson laid down a bunt and everyone was safe. Jennifer Paxton then through the hole at short scoring Long. Hermiston led at the end of the third 7-1.
The next scoring came in the bottom of the fourth. Maloree Moss led off with a hit to centerfield. Gracie Flyg then laid down a bunt that was safe all around. Courtney Howard then hit to rightfield. Paige Long ended up walking forcing in Moss. Cheyanne Lawson then hit to centerfield driving in Flyg and Howard. That gave Hermiston the 10-1 lead. Long then scored on a passball. Andrea Waters laid down a sac bunt scoring Lawson. Hermiston led at the end of the fourth 12-1.
Wilsonville had to score three runs to keep the game going in the fifth inning or Hermiston would win under the ten run rule. Wilsonville didn't get any traction at all sending three up and three going out on a ground out, strikeout and flyout.
Hermiston won 12-1 and celebrated by running the bases afterwards.
In the cross town game the Hermiston Bulldog men lost to Sandy 4-2.
