IRRIGON - The Weston-McEwen Lady Tiger Scots defeated the Irrigon Knights in the first game of the OSAA 1A/2A Special District 5 Softball Tournament on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The temperature at game tiem was about 60 degrees with a wind ranging from 10 to 20 MPH. It was a cloudy blustery day that felt more like the weather around Thankdgiving. There was an almost constant drizzle throughout the two games played. At times it was a real rain.

Weston-McEwen was designated the home team for the playoff game.

The first team to score was Weston-McEwen in the bottom of the second inning. WM had runners on first and second with no outs when Joshlynn Killgore hit to left field. Killgore's hit drove in both runs. Amanda Kuehn then hit down the third base line. McKenzie Fuhrman groundout to secondbase but drove in Killgore. Kuehn then scored on a pass ball. Weston-McEwen led at the end of the second inning 4-0.

Three innings went by with Irrigon not able get batters on base and into scoring positions. Weston-McEwen also had trouble getting runners onto base.

Weston-McEwen scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. Taryn Coffman scored from third when Joshlynn Killgore hit to left field. That run gave Weston-McEwen the 5-0 lead.

Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh inning. Weston-McEwen won the first game 5-0. Weston-McEwen would go on to play Pilot Rock for the SD 5 championship.
