HERISTON - The Kennewick Washington Lions defeated the Hermiston Bulldogs 34-0 on Friday, September 9, 2011. It was the first home game of the season for the Bulldogs.
Kennewick took the openning kickoff and put together an eight play touchdown drive led by quarterback Bryce Leavitt. Leavitt scored the touchdown on a three yard keeper with 9:24 to go in the first quarter.
Hermiston wasn't able to get the offense going in the first quarter. The Bulldogs put together a twenty play drive spaning the end of the first and going well into the second quarter. The drive ended on the Kennewick 30 yard line on a 4th and 25 incomplete pass.
The Kennewick Lions next scoring opportunity came when they took over on downs first and ten on their own 27 yard line with 3:47 to go in the first half. The Lions put together a nine play drive made up of QB keeper, runs and passes. With less than a minute to play in the half Bryce Leavitt tossed a short pass for a touchdown. The Lions missed the PAT making the score 13-0.
Hermiston fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half and the Lions recovered and ran it in for a touchdown. The Lions missed the PAT making the score 19-0 with 11:46 to go in the third quarter. The Lions received a punt from Hermiston with 8:39 to go in the third. Five running plays later Grant Woods scored on a four yard run for a touchdown. The PAT was good giving the Lions the 26-0 lead.
The Lions scored in one play when they took ran in for a touchdwon from the 40 yard line with 2:46 to go in the third quarter. A facemask penalty was called on Hermiston but the touchdown was good but the PAT was missed. The Lions led 32-0.
The final score for the Lions came with Hermiston taking the ball on their own 11 yard line with 10:31 to go in the fourth quarter. Hermiston lined up a punt at fourth and eight on their own 13 yard line. The snap was fumbled which led to a safety and two points for Kennewick. Kennewick led 34-0.
Kennewick controlled the ball for the last six minutes of the game. The Lions took the 34-0 win.
