HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs had a big homecoming win defeating the Hood River Eagles 55-14 on Friday, October 14, 2011. It was a big night for Hermiston running back Bobby Adams. Adams scored four touchdowns in the game. The weather was nice with temperatures in the 60s for the entire game.
Hermiston scored their first touchdown on their first drive after taking the opening kickoff. The touchdown drive took six plays, a pass and five big runs. The Bulldog touchdown came on a run by Rique Cardenas on 2nd and 2 on the Hood River 12 yard line. Hermiston missed the PAT to take the 6-0 lead with 9:56 on the clock.
Hood River took the kickoff following the Hermiston touchdown and drove 81 yards in 14 plays to score on a pass from the six yard line. The Eagles hit the PAT to take the 7-6 lead with 5:51 to go in the first quarter.
Hermiston's next touchdown came in the second quarter. Heriston took possesion of the ball on the Hood River 41 yard line with 1:13 to go in the first quarter. The drive took seven plays over the two quarters for Bobby Adams to score his first of four touchdowns. Adams scored on a 25 yard run. The two point conversion was good giving Hermiston the 14-7 lead with 11:15 to go in the second quarter.
It took less than a minute for Hood River to go four and out. Hermiston took the punt and ended up 1st and 10 on the 46 yard line. Hermiston quarterback Alex Campbell connected with Alex Ortiz with a pass play that took Ortiz all the way to the Hood River one yard line. Bobby Adams ran it up the middle for his second touchdown and giving Hermiston a 20-7 lead. The PAT was good pushing the Bulldog lead to 21-7 with 10:08 to go in the second quarter.
Hermiston's next score came on a long run by Bobby Adams on a 1st and 5 on the 34 yard lien. Adams ran left all the way for the touchdown. The PAT was good giving the Bulldogs the 28-7 lead with 6:48 to go in the first half.
The next score for Hermiston occured when Hood River attempted a pass on 4th and 13 on the 42 yard line. Hermiston intercepted the pass. Bulldog players attempted to pitch the ball to keep the return going but was called back to the point of the pitch. Hermiston ended up 1st and 10 on Hood River's 37 yard line. Jared Munsterman scored for Hermiston on a run down the left sideline. The PAT was missed making the Hermiston lead 34-7 with 44 seconds to go in the first half. Hermiston led at the half 34-7.
Halftime Homecoming Activities
Halftime activities revolved around the introduction of the homecoming court royalty. The Freshman couple was Lyndsee Anderson and Michael Potts. The Sophomore couple was Megan James and Jacob Harmon. The Junior couple was Nayeli Ruiz and Kevin Hawman. The three Senior couples were Jeni Hoffert and Rique Cardenas, Hope Butler and Endy De La Cruz, and Crystal Schmidt and Tyler Schwirse.
Following the introductions the three senior princesses went to three large boxes. On cue they opened them with balloons flying out Hope Butler's box. Celebrations and hugs took up the next several minutes. The fans attention then turned to the county fair grounds as a fireworks display began.
Second Half Football Action
Hermiston kicked off to Hood River to start the third quarter. The Eagles scored in three plays. The PAT was good cutting Hermiston's lead to 34-14.
Hermiston scored on their next possesion. The Bulldogs ran for seven plays scoring the touchdown on a 33 yard touchdown run by Bobby Adams. The two point conversion was good giving Hermiston the 42-14 lead.
Hermiston next scoring drive began on the 45 yard line with 6:50 to go in the third. The two plays covered 45 yards with a 29 yard touchdown pass to Rique Cardenas. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 49-14 lead.
Hermiston scored with 5:20 to go in the third when on a second and ten Costa Rodriguez intercepted a Cody Walker Hood River pass and ran it in for a touchdown. The PAT was missed. Hermiston led 55-14.
The third quarter ended with Hermiston leading 55-14.
The fourth quarter was dominated by two long drives by Hood River and Hermiston that failed to end in a score. The Hood River drive took 14 plays and died on the Hermiston six yard line when the Dawgs intercepted a pass into the endzone.
Hermiston took over on their own 20 yard line and went 30 yards in 15 plays with mostly second stringers finishing out the 55-14 win for the Dawgs.
