IRRIGON - The Weston McEwen TigerScots defeated the Irrigon Knights 66-14 on Friday, October 21, 2011. It was homecoming for the Knights. Weston McEwen dominated play until late in the game. It was a nice evening weather wise for late October with the crowd in light jackets and sweaters.
Weston McEwen scored their first touchdown when they recovered an Irrigon fumble in the opening minute of the game and ran it in for the score. The two point conversion was good giving WM the 8-0.
Weston McEwen's next score came on a drive following an Irrigon punt. The TigerScots put together a nine play touchdown drive. A run from the two yard scored the TigerScots second touchdown. The two point conversion was good giving WM the 16-0 lead with 8:43 to go in the first quarter.
The third Weston McEwen touchdown came late in the first quarter. The TigerScots took possesion on a punt with 3:49 to go. Ten plays later Eliot Salter ran in over the left side for a touchdown. The two point conversion was missed giving WM the 22-0 lead.
Irrigon's offense continued to sputter at the start of the second quarter. Irrigon punted to WM at 11:42 of the second quarter. The punt was ran in for a touchdown by Elliot Salter. The PAT was good giving the TigerScots the 29-0 lead.
Weston McEwen took over the ball at the 9:30 mark of the second quarter on downs. Two plays later the TigerScots ran it in for a touchdown. The PAT was blocked giving WM the 35-0 lead.
Weston McEwen next took over the ball following a punt by Irrigon with 7:30 to go in the second quarter. Five plays later the TigerScots scored on a 39 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good giving Weston McEwen the 42-0 lead.
Weston McEwen recovered a fumble just a couple minutes later. Three plays later WM scored on a touch down pass down the left side. The PAT was missed. WM led 48-0 with 5:27 to go in the first half.
Irrigon put together a seven play series that led to a punt to WM. The TigerScots scored two plays later on a three yard run. The PAT was blocked. The TigerScots led 54-0.
The teams exchanged possesion in the final minutes of the first half.
Homecoming
Irrigon celebrated homecoming at halftime. Four senior couples and one couple each from the underclasses. Large boxes were brought out and placed in front of the four senior princesses. On cue they were opened and balloons rose from the winning couple's box.
Senior cheerleaders and other students involved in the game were also acknowledged at halftime.
The Second Half
Due to the score the clock was ran continuously from the start of the second half. The teams exchanged possesion three times until WM was able to drive for a touchdown. The TigerScots seven play drive ended with a two yard run. The PAT was blocked. Weston McEwen led 60-0 with 49 seconds to go in the third.
WM recovered a fumble by the Knights early in the fourth quarter. Nick Lively picked up the fumble for the TigerScots and ran it in for a touchdown. WM lined up for a regular PAT and either it was fake or there was a scramble that led to a missed two point conversion. Weston McEwen led 66-0 with 9:31 to go in the game.
WM hit a short kick that was recovered by the TigerScots. Irrigon held forcing WM to punt.
Irrigon took the kickoff and put together a five play touchdown drive. Key to the drive was a catch by Osvaldo Macias that took the ball to the WM 34 yard line. Then came a 45 yard touchdown pass to Andy Aguilera. Aguilera stretched from the two yard line for a touchdown while in the grips of a WM defender. Osvaldo Macias scored the two point conversion to cut WM's lead to 66-8.
Weston McEwen's next possesion fizzled out forcing them to punt. Andy Aguilera picked up the punt and ran over 60 yards for an Irrigon touchdown. The two point conversion was missed. The Irrigon score cut Weston McEwen's lead to 66-14.
Time ran out with Weston McEwen in possesion of the ball at about midfield. Weston McEwen won 66-14.
