Hermiston won 3-2; 25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-7

HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Pendleton Bucks 3-2 on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. The Bulldogs won with set scores of 25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-7.

Hermiston dominated Pendleton in the first set of the match. Gracie Flyg started things off for the Bulldogs by serving for a 4-0 lead wtih two winners. Hermiston led at one point by 8, 12-4. Pendleton did have a nice run of serve by Shea Lea LIndsey who served for six points to close the gap to four, 18-14. Hermiston shut down the Bucks by outscoring them 7-2 to close out the 25-16 set win. Hermiston's Crystal Schmidt had a good set with 4 kills, a couple blocks and two dinks. Also hitting a kill was Callahan Crossley.

Hermiston controlled the second set with a strong serving game and great play at the net. Big kill hits came from Crystal Schmidt with four kills, Callahan Crossley with one and Gracie Flyg with two. Overall the Dawgs served up aces by Callahan Crossley, Maloree Moss and Gracie Flyg. Hermiston led by 7, 15-8 at about the midway point. Several long volleys made for exciting play but didn't dent Hermiston's lead. Hermiston won the second set 25-19.

The third set had Pendleton scramble to their first set win. It took all the way to near the end that the Bucks tied it up at 19-19. A string of sideouts kept Pendleton in the set until Shea Lea Lindsey serving with the Dawgs leading 19-18. Lindsey served a winner and with tough front line play the Bucks took the 21-19 lead. Hermiston battled back to tie it at 21-21. Pendleton then out scored Hermiston with sideouts and strong net play to win the set 25-22. Hermiston served up aces from Maloree Moss and Cheyanne Lawson. Kills for Hermiston came from Cheyanne Lawson, Crystal Schmidt and Gracie Flyg.

The fourth set had the same final score as the third but it was a back forth scoring during the entire set. Hermiston served up five winners and two kills and that wasn't enough to win the set. The teams were tied at 21-21 and Shea Lea Lindsey served for three Pendleton scores. A kill by Xayna Robinson of Pendleton off a Hermiston serve sealed the set win for the Bucks. Pendleton won the set 25-22 tieing the match at 2-2.

The 2-2 tie meant that the teams had to play a first to 15 fifth set. Hermiston roared out of the gate to take a 5-1 lead. Winners from Gracie Flyg and Callahan Crossley helped to drive that score. Hermiston nailed kills by Crystal Schimdt, Gracie Flyg and Cheyanne Lawson. Hermiston led 11-3 but that just increased their intensity as they muscled their way to the 15-7 set win and 3-2 match win.
