Hermiston Defeated Wilson

Hermiston won 3-0; 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18

HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Wilson Trojans of the PIL 3-0; 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18 to go on to the OSAA state championships. Hermiston's eight seniors have a goal of making to the final eight at the OSAA 5A state tournament. Kalee Pratt, Gracie Flyg, Maloree Moss, Crystal Schmidt, Courtney Howard, Callahan Crossley, Cheyanne Lawson and Jeni Hoffert are the Bulldog seniors who have been working years to perfect their play.

Hermiston took the early 4-0 lead in the first set. Wilson battled back to tie it up at 12-12. Gracie Flyg then served as Hermiston scored four points to take a 17-13 lead. Wilson wasn't able to close the gap even with the teams trading side outs. Flyg served up an ace in the set. Cheyanne Lawson hit two kills for Hermiston. Maloree Moss had two blocks. Hermiston won the first set 25-19.

The second set started out being fairly evenly played until Sarah Sanderson of Wilson served up a run of four points and take a 10-4 lead. Wilson continued to hold the lead until they led by the score of 18-12. Maloree Moss then rotated to serve for Hermiston and ran up five points to tie things up at 18-18. The teams alternated the lead until the Dawgs had the 24-23 lead. Callahan Crossley served out for the Dawgs 25-23 win. Serving up aces in the second set for the Dawgs were Gracie Flyg with one and Cheyanne Lawson with one. Nailing kills for the Dawgs were Gracie Flyg with three, Cheyanne Lawson with two and Jeni Hoffert with one.

Hermiston completely controlled the third and deciding set of the match once they took the 5-4 lead. Hermiston began pulling away from the Trojans when Courtney Howard served for a run of four points and 13-8 lead. Gracie Flyg and Callahan Crossley then combined to serve Hermiston to a 18-10 lead. Hermiston then cruised on to the 25-18 win. Hermiston had two kills from Crystal Schmidt, one kill each from Graice Flyg and Cheyanne Lawson.
