Echo - The Irrigon Lady Knights defeated the Echo Cougars 50-48 during the Friday, December 2, 2011 session of the Echo Hoops INvitational. Irrigon had two players in double figures with Celina Munoz with 12 and Karmen Garrett with 14. Echo had only player with double figures, Rachel Round led all players with 17 points. Irrigon had a consistent shooting percentate of 28.2% in the first half and 25.7% in the second half. Echo had a spotty early season game hitting 19.4% in the first half then fired 33.3% in the second half. Irrigon was 9 of 12 at the freethrow line with Celina Munoz going 4 for 4. Echo was 13 of 29 from the line with five players hitting freethrows.
The first quarter started out as a back and forth game until Echo lept ahead 11-6 on a jump shot by Hayden Tarvin. Echo led at the end of the first quarter 11-6.
The second quarter started off with Irrigon hitting three shots by Karmen Garrett, Madisyn Cadek, and Celina Munoz in a row to take a 12-11 lead. The Cougars then took the lead back with scoring by Kirsten McCallum and Rachael Round only to see the Knights go on a run in the final minute and take a 23-18 lead at halftime.
Irrigon held the Cougars scoreless for the first three minutes of the third quarter while Karmen Garrett, Ashli Roberts and Tessa McLaughlin took the 33-18 lead. Kirsten McCallum hit a trey to break the ice and put the Cougars on the board. The Cougars then went cold in the final three minutes of the third. Irrigon outscored Echo 6 to 3 in the final two minutes on their way to a 10 point 41-21 lead at the end of the third period.
Echo out scored Irrigon 17-9 in the fourth but the Knights held on to win 50-48. A lot of scoring in the fourth came from Rachael Round of Echo as she scored nine points overall. Irrigon played tough but saw their shooting dry up for nearly four minutes in the middle of the fourth.
