HERMISTON - The Kamiakin Lady Braves of Kennewick, Washington defeated the Hermsiton Bulldogs 51-43 on Friday, December 9, 2011. The most dynamic player of the game was Khadidja Toure of Kamiakin. Toure unofficially scored 24 points powering the Kamiakin offense and played strong defense making the game difficult for the Bulldogs. The high scored for Hermiston appeared to be Heidi Walchli with 18 points. Hermiston found it difficult to any scoring momentum going against the Kamiakin defense in what ended up being a fairly low scoring game.
Hermiston started the first period with a trey by Heidi Walchli to take a 3-0 lead in the first 15 seconds. Kamiakin then hit two shots to take a 4-3 lead. The teams then exchanged the lead until the 2:12 point of the first. Kamiakin then had a run of scoring when Courtney Nelson hit a jumper then Khadidja Toure scored on the a run along the baseline then hit a trey to give Kamiaking the 15-11 lead at the end of the first period.
Hermiston outscored Kamiakin 12-10 in the second period. Scoring in the second for the Dawgs were Heidi Walchli, Andrea Waters and Jeni Hoffert. Khadidja Toure of Kamiakin scored six of the 10 points for the Braves. Kamiakin held on to lead Hermiston 25-23 at halftime.
Kamiakin took control of the game in the third period outscoring Hermiston 16-10. The Dawgs only scored four points in the first four minutes of the third. That slow scoring allowed Kamiakin to score nine points and take a 34-27 lead. There was a flurry of fouls in the middle of the period from both teams with the Braves solidifying their lead. Kamiakin led at the end of the third 41-33.
The teams scored 10 points each in the fourth period. The Dawgs went into foul mode with about three minutes to go in the game in an attempt to chip away at the Braves lead. It didn't work but it did keep Kamiakin scoreless for the last 2:30 of the game. Kamiakin won the game 51-43.
