UMATILLA - The Pilot Rock Rockets defeated the Umatilla Vikings 73-64 on Saturday, December 10, 2011. It was a game of wild swings in momentum and scoring for both teams.

The teams exchanged the lead several times during the first period. Scoring for Pilot Rock in the first were Tice Waite, Skylar Leasy and D'Marcus Bowie who hit three jumpers including a trey. Viking scoring came from Nick Snyder, Tanner Chewning, Israel Gastelum, David Bernal and Andres Sanguino. Pilot Rock led at the end of the first 17-15.

Pilot Rock's scoring exploded in the second period for 24 points while Umatilla only scored 9 points. Pilot Rock led at halftime by a score of 41-26. Pilot Rock players scoring in the second included Logan Thorne, Zach Snively and Tice Waite. Pilot Rock led at halftime 41-26.

The scoring pendulum swung over to Umatilla in the third period. The Vikings outscored Pilot Rock 26-13 and cut the Rockets lead to two points. Pilot Rock clung to the lead at the end of the third 54-52. Scoring for Umatilla in the third were Tanner Chewning, Nick Snyder, Andres Sanguino, Martin Rubio and David Bernal.

Pilot Rock outscored Umatilla 19-12 in the fourth. Umatilla came out shooting in the opening minutes of the fourth as they tied it up at 56-56 then crept to within one at 63-62 with 3;13 to play. Then Umatilla went cold for over two minutes finally hitting a layup with 34 second to play. Scoring for Pilot Rock were D'Marcus Bowie, Logan Thorne, Dillon Britain, Tyler Simmons, Dustin DeDios and Skylar Leasy. Umatilla had scoring by Brandon Williams, Andres Sanguino and Tanner Chewning. Pilot Rock won 73-64.
