HERMISTON - The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lewiston Bengals 49-47 on literally a last second shot by senior guard Maloree Moss. It was an extremely close game with the teams alternating the lead through out the game. Hermiston had most of their scoring distributed among Andrea Waters with 12, Maloree Moss with 10, Jeni Hoffert and McKenzie Byrd each with eight. It was sweater night among the Bulldog student fans.
The game was a closely played match from the opening tip. The lead was tied or exchanged four times in the first quarter. Lewiston was able to take an 11-6 lead with 3:14 to go in the quarter. McKenzie Byrd of Hermiston then scored, was fouled and made the free throw to cut Lewiston's lead to two at 11-9. Maloree Moss then hit a trey to giv eHermiston the 12-11 lead with 35 seconds to play in the quarter. Scoring in the first for Hermiston were Jeni Hoffert, Heidi Walchli, McKenzie Byrd and Maloree Moss.
Lewiston outscored Hermiston 15-13 in the second quarter to take the 26-25 lead at halftime. The lead was exchanged eight times in the quarter. Lewiston took the lead even before the quarter started when Hermiston was assessed a technical foul for a roster infraction. The Bengals Jennifer Hansen hit two technical fould shots to take the 13-12 lead. Other Bengals scoring in the second were Lynzee Wilson, Kendra Schlader and Tisha Phillips. Bulldogs scoring came from Maloree Moss, Gracie Flyg and Andrea Waters.
The third quarter was low scoring with Hermiston outscoring Lewiston 11-9. Scoring for Hermiston were Gracie Flyg, Heidi Walchli and Andrea Waters. Hermiston led by eight, 36-28 with 4:45 to go in the quarter. Heidi Walchli scored a trey at that time. The Dawgs then went scoreless for the rest of the quarter but held on to lead 36-35.
Hermiston outscored Lewiston 13-12 in the fourth quarter. Lewiston led 47-44 with with 21 seconds to play. Andrea Waters then hit a trey with 12 seconds to play to tie it at 47-47. Jeni Hoffert then intensionally fouled Karlee Wilson of Lewiston with 8 seconds to play. Wilson missed the freethrow. Hermiston inbounded the ball and moved it quickly up the court where Maloree Moss hit a short jumper for the 49-47 win at the buzzer. The Dawgs jumped and cheered surrounding Moss as they celebrated the last second win.
