BOARDMAN - The Riverside Pirates defeated the Ione Cardinals 74-53 on Thursday, December 29, 2011. The gym was packed with fans from both teams. The game was a close one in the first half with just one separating them at halftime.

Riverside dominated the opening minutes of play leading by six at 8-2 at 5:30. Ione then closed the gap to just three as the Pirates led 10-7 at 4:39. Ione closed the gap with a trey and two buckets to tie it at 17-17 at the end of the first quarter. Scoring for Riverside came from Omar Murillo, Marco Carranza, Greg Shimer, Erik Ruiz with a trey and Sean Shimer.

The second quarter was back and forth as the teams tied or exchanged the lead 13 times. Scoring for Riverside in the second were Victor Gonzalez, Omar Murillo, Sean Shimer and Evan keefer. Riverside led by one at halftime, 33-32.

Riverside picked up the pace in hte third quarter outscoring ione 21-7. Sean Shimer had the hot shooting scoring eight points six of which from three pointers. Also scoring for the Pirates were Gregg Shimer with nine points and Omar Murillo. Riverside led 55-39 at the end of the third quarter.

The Riverside Pirates outscored Ione 19-14 in the fourth quarter. Evan Keefer opened the fourth with a trey. Other Pirates scoring in hte fourth were Jovanny Llamas, Marco Carranza, Victor Gonzalez, Sean Shimer and Erik Carranza. Riverside defeated the Cardinals 74-53.
