STANFIELD - The 2A Stanfield Tigers defeated the 3A Umatilla Vikings 68-45 on Tuesday, Janurary 3, 2012 at Stanfield. The Tigers took the 6-5 lead with 3:10 to go in the first and kept the lead through the rest of the game. Stanfield looked quite strong throughout the game.
The teams alternated the lead in the opening four mintues of the first quarter. Stanfield scored first on a jumper by Dino Ibarra. Umatilla came right back with David Bernal hitting a trey. It was back and forth until Umatilla went scoreless for almost two minutes. By that point Stanfield controlled the rest of the quarter. Scoring for Stanfield in the first were Dino Ibarra, Devin Bailey, Uises Ibarra, Saul Esquivel and Eddy Ramos. Scoring for Uamtilla in the first were Nick Snyder, Brandon Williams and David Bernal. Stanfield led at the end of first 16-9.
Stanfield outscored Umatilla 23-13 to take a 17 point lead in the second quarter. The Tigers scoring in the swecond quarter started off on two treys by Devin Bailey. Bailey hit four treys in the quarter on his way to scoring 14 points in the second. Other Tigers scoring in the second were Bryce Linker, Koty Kamm and Kino Ibarra. Scoring for Umatilla in the second quarter were Andres Snguino, Nick Snyder, David Bernal and Martin Rubio. Vikings scoring treys included Andres Sanguino, David Bernal and Martin Rubio. Stanfield led 39-22 at halftime.
Scoring slowed a bit in the third quarter but Stanfield still outscored Umatilla 13-4 to push the Tigers' lead to 26 points. Tigers scoring in the third were Bryce Linker, Eddy Ramos and Saul Esquivel. Scoring for the Vikings included Mitch Thompson. Stanfield led 52-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Umatilla outscored Stanfield 19-16 in the fourth quarter. That scoring run by the Vikings only chipped at the Tigers strong lead. Umatilla's scoring in the fourth came from Andres Sanguino, Nick Snyder, Tanner Chewning and Mitch Thompson. Tigers that scored in the fourth Hector Hernandez, Koty Kamm, Bryce Linker, Devin Bailey, Devin Haefer and Efrain Nunez. Devin Bailey also hit two treys. Stanfield won the game 68-45.
