STANFIELD -
The Stanfield Lady Tigers defeated the Umatilla Vikings 43-41 on Tuesday, Janurary 3, 2012.
It was a close game in the third with Umatilla leading Stanfield by a score of 28-26 with
four minutes to go. Umatilla led by three at the end of the third 32-29.
Stanfield outscored Umatilla 7-3 to take a 36-35 lead in the first three and a half minutes
of the fourth quarter. The teams then battled for the lead over the next three minutes
alternating the lead four times. Once the Tigers got the lead with less than two minutes to
play they used the clock to their advantage. Hailey Cox of Stanfield hit two freethrows to
give the Tigers a three point lead with th 42-39 score. Umatilla hit a bucket to close to
within one with just over a minute to play. Nidia Ibara sealed the win for Stanfield hitting
one of two freethrows with two seconds to play. Stanfield won 43-41.
