HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the The Dalles Wahtonka Eagle Indians 48-41 on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. The Bulldogs came back to win after only scoring one point in the entire first quarter. The Dawgs only scored four points in the seocnd quarter. The Bulldogs scored at a rate of a third of point per minute compared to TDW's 1.5 points per minute. The Bulldogs hit their nadir early in the third quarter when they where 16 points behind the Eagle Indians at 21-5. The Bulldogs then turned things around out scoring tDW 19-11 in the third and 24 points in the fourth.

The first quarter was slow paced by both teams. Hermiston didn't score until the 2:48 point when Alex Ortiz hit a free throw. Grayson Byers scored six points for TDW in the first. TDW led 8-1 at the end of the first.

TDW continued to consistantly hit their shots and put up enough defense to frustrate the Dawgs. The Eagle Indians out scored Hermiston 11-4 in the second. Hermiston didn't score until 3:32 when Nolan Briscoe hit a lay up. Almost two minutes later Jake Flyg worked the baseline for a bucket. Hermiston seemed to have trouble passing and hitting their shots. TDW led 19-5 at halftime.

The second half was almost like a totally different game. The artic cold shooting of the Dawgs suddenly heated up and their defense strengthened. Treys that had flown wide where going in. Deflected shots flew true. The Dawgs out scored TDW 19-11 cutting the Eagle Indians lead to just six. Alonso Ortiz hit two treys and Jake Flyg nailed one. Alex Ortiz was successful from the free throw line. Also scoring for the Dawgs in the third was Ramon Contreras. TDW led at the end of the third 30-24.

The Dawgs were scortching in the fourth leading the scoring 24-11. It took nearly five minutes in the fourth for the Dawgs to finally tie TDW at 37-37 with 2:48 to play. The teams then exchanged the lead several times in the next minute until Hermiston took the 40-39 lead on a trey by Jake Flyg. Just seconds later Flyg hit another trey to stretch Hermiston's lead to 4 at 43-39. TDW's tall post Grayson Byers hit a lay up with 1:22 to go in the game. That was the last score for the Eagle Indians. Hermiston would score five more points on free throws by Nolan Briscoe and Alonso Ortiz and a lay up by Alex Ortiz. Jake Flyg hit two treys for the Dawgs in the fourth. Hermiston took the come from behind win 48-41.
