HERMISTON - The Pendleton Bucks defeated the Hermiston Bulldogs 53-45 on Friday, January 13, 2012. It was a fairly close game until the fourth quarter when Hermiston was only able to score four points.
The first period was a close one in the first four minutes of play with the teams exchanging the lead four times. That's when the Bucks took the 6-4 lead on the way to their 12-8 lead at the end of the first. Scoring for Hermiston in the first were Alex Ortiz, Ramon Contreras and Alonso Ortiz. Scoring from Pendleton were Bryan Beard, Lathan Alger, Deon Davis and Chaz Madsen.
Hermiston turned things around the second quarter outscoring the Bucks 14-9. The teams were tied or exchanged the lead four times in the quarter until Hermiston held on to a one point lead at the buzzer. Bucks scoring came from Deon Davis, Darius Polhamus, Chaz Madsen and Isaiah Moses. Scoring for Hermiston were Alonso Ortiz, Ramon Contreras, Nolan Briscoe and Jake Flyg. Alonso Ortiz hit a trey at the halfway point of the second. Hermiston led at halftime, 22-21.
Pendleton outscored Hermiston 20-19 to tie things up at 41-41 at the end of the third quarter. Scoring for Pendleton were Bryan Beard, Darius Polhamus, Deon Davis and Chaz Madsen. Bulldogs scoring in the third included Alex Ortiz, Nolan Briscoe, Alonso Ortiz and Michael Pederson. Hermiston scored four treys in the last three minutes of the quarter - Alonso Ortiz hit two treys followed by Jake Flyg and Michael Pederson each with one. The teams were tied 41-41 at the end of the third.
Pendleton outscored Hermiston 12-4 in the fourth quarter. Hermiston's scoring came n a baseline drive and a jump shot by Ramon Contreras. Scoring for the Bucks came from Deon Davis, Bryan Beard, Darius Polhamus and Lathan Alger. Deon Davis had a big quarter with three steals and layups for scores. Pendleton took control of the game with 5:30 to go as Hermiston's shooting went cold. The Bucks won 53-45.
