The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the St Helens Lions 73-29 on Friday, February 24, 2012
in an OSAA 5A play in game at Hermiston, Oregon. Hermiston dominated the game, doubling up
on the Lions, 16-8 at the end of the first quarter. Hermiston led by 17 at half time, 28 at
the end of the third and 44 at the end of the game. Hermiston's seven seniors have become
a well practised cohesive collective with juniors and sophomores that can plugged in to the
lineup at any time.
St Helens had the height advantage with three players over six feet and two 5'10" players.
Hermiston doesn't have a single player over 5'11" and no starter over 5'10".
The St Helens Lions took the opening tip and scored. Hermiston came right back to tie it up
with a shot by Maloree Moss. Then Jeni Hoffert hit back to back treys for Hermiston. That
fast turn of events gave Hermiston the 8-2 lead. Other Bulldogs scoring in the first were
Heidi Walchli and Andrea Waters. Scoring for the Lions were Monique Smiley, Jillian Ross and
Ashley Sharp. Hermiston led by 8 at the end of the first, 16-8.
Hermiston out scored St Helens 16-5 in the second quarter. Hermiston players' timing and pacing
improved in the second quarter. Timing thier moves, Bulldog players started picking off Lion
passes and grabbing rebounds. Hermiston started scoring off fast breaks breaking up the Lion's
height advantage. Scoring for Hermiston in the second were Gracie Flyg, Jeni Hoffert, Callahan
Crossley, Maloree Moss and McKenzie Byrd. Hermiston led at halftime 32-15.
Hermiston continued to control the game in the third quarter scoring 17 points to six for the
Lions. The Bulldogs more than doubled the score on the Lions, leading by 28 points, 49-21.
Scoring for Hermiston in the third were Maloree Moss, Heidi Walchli, Gracie Flyg, Cheyanne
Lawson and Marissa Crowe.
Hermiston completed dominated play in the fouth quarter, 24-8. Bulldogs scoring in the fourth
were Marissa Crowe, Haley Foley, Cheyanne Lawson, Callahan Crossley, Maloree Moss, Gracie Flyg and
McKenzie Byrd. The Hermiston Bulldogs won the game by 44 points, 73-29. Next up for the Bulldogs
are the Liberty Falcons on Friday, March 2, 2012 with a scheduled start time of 6PM.
