HERMISTON- The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Liberty Falcons from Hillsboro, Oregon 63-33 on Friday, March 2, 2012 in an OSAA 5A first round playoff game. The win sends the Bulldogs to Eugene to play in the final 8 for the 5A championship. The game started off very slowly with Hermistn leading 26-11 at halftime. Things picked up for the Bulldogs in the second half with them scoring 37 points. Hermiston used their normal starting lineup of seniors Jeni Hoffert, Gracie Flyg, Andrea Waters, Maloree Moss and junior Heidi Walchli.

Liberty scored first after taking the opening tip and Emily Flinn drove in for a lay up. Hermiston's first score came on freethrow by Maloree Moss. Moss then hit a jumper to give Hermiston the 3-2 lead at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter. The teams tied or exchanged the lead five times overall in the first. Scoring in the first for Liberty were Flinn and Brittany Giebers. Scoring for the Dawgs were Moss and Callahan Crossley who hit back two back treys in the last 1:15 of the first. Hermiston led at the end of the first, 13-7.

Hermiston led scoring in the second quarter 13-4. Scoring for the Falcon in the second quarter were McKenzie Oster and Lena Legate. Callahan Crossely continued her string of treys when she hit her third trey of the game in the first 15 seconds of play. Other Dawgs scoring in the second were Maloree Moss who scored six points, Gracie Flyg and Heidi Walchli. Hermiston led by 15 at halftime, 26-11.

Hermiston continued to increase their control on the game in the third quarter out scoring Liberty 17-10. Scoring for Liberty in the third were Emily Flinn, Alex Flores and McKenzie Oster. Hermiston's Jeni Hoffert scored eight points for Hermiston on two treys and a lay up. Also scoring for the Dawgs Gracie Flayg, Andrea Waters, Maloree Moss and Heidi Walchli. Hermiston led by 23 at the end of the thrid quarter, 43-21.

Hermiston again increased their scoring in the fourth quarter 20-12. Liberty players scoring in the fourth were Emily Flinn, Kylie Wruble, Hannah Langbehn, Lena Legate and Criselda Lopez. Bulldogs scoring in the fourth were Marissa Crowe, McKenzie Byrd, Jeni Hoffert, Cheyanne lawson, Maloree Moss and Tavin Headings. Hermiston won the game 63-33 and is off to Eugene for the final 8 of the OSAA state tournament.
