IRRIGON - The 2A Irrigon Knights defeated the 3A Umatilla Vikings 3-0 on Monday, April 2, 2012. It was a sunny day with the temperature at about 58 degrees and a variable wind between 10 and 20 mph.
Bridger Hurley was the only Viking to make it on base, with one out, in the top of the first. He was stranded on second as Irrigon pitcher Francisco Nunez struck out two of teammates.
Ernesto Aguilera of Irrigon led off the bottom of the first inning with a grounder that got him safely to first base. Francisco Nunez then hit to left field driving in Aguilera from first to score the first run. A player picked off at third and a fly out to right field ended the scoring opportunities for the Knights in the first. Irrigon led 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
The next scoring opportunity occured in the bottom of the second inning. Ricky Amburgy hit a grounder to the shortstop and out ran the throw to first. Taylor Gumbert then hit to left field. The right fielder Chapman then bunted safely loading up the bases. The next batter struck out. Ernesto Aguilera then hit a grounder to the shortstop and made it safely to first driving in Amburgy and giving Irrigon the 2-0 lead.
Irrigon next scored in the bottom of the third. Francisco Nunez led off the bottom of the inning with a grounder that he made it safely to first base. Leon Luna then hit to right field scoring Nunez and giving the Knights the 3-0 that would end up being the final score of the game.
