STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers swept the Sherman County Huskies 8-1 and 5-4 in a doubleheader on Friday, April 20, 2012. It was a nice afternoon with the temperature in the low 70s that became partly cloudy and cooled off during the second game.
Picking up the action at the start of game two. The teams flipped home / away at bats in game two with Stanfield going to bat in the top of the first inning. Bryce Linker was the first Tiger on base when he hit a grounder to the shortstop who held off throwing to first. Devin Bailey then hit to right firld scoring Linker from second. Bailey then scored on a pass ball. With Ross Mendiola on second Dominic Renner hit to center field scoring Mendiola giving Stanfield it's 3-0 lead midway throught the first inning.
Stanfield scored again in the top of the second inning. Lead off batter Travis Ables walked. Devin Haefer was hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second. Bryce Linker then hit to right field scoring Ables and making the Tigers' lead 4-0.
Sherman County scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Both runs came on steals at home within a single at bat.
Stanfield scored a run in the top of the fourth. Devin Haefer was hit by a pitch. With Haefer on second Bryce Linker hit to center field scoring Haefer. Stanfield led at the end of the fourth 5-2.
Sherman scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a ground out. The groundout scored the runner from third. Stanfield led 5-3 at the end of the fifth.
Sherman County made a drive to steal the game from Stanfeild in the bottom of the seventh. The Huskies were able to load the bases. However Sherman only scored one run when a batter was hit by a pitch forcing in the runner from third. Stanfield took game two 6-4.
