BOARDMAN - The 2A Irrigon Knights travelled to Riverside at Boardman, Oregon and defeated the 3A Pirates 34-0 on Friday, September 14, 2012.

Irrigon scored a touchdown in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead.

The second quarter began with the Knights 2nd and 5 on the Riverside 23 yard line. A run down the right side took the Knights to the 18 yard line. Next came a run up the middle to the 2 yard line. Irrigon quarterback Francisco Nunez then scored on a keeper to give the Knights the 12-0 lead with 11:08 to go in the first half. The PAT was blocked.

Riverside then got a nice opportunity when they put together a seven play series, punted to Irrigon then recovered a fumble on the Irrigon 33 yard line. Unfortunately Riverside was not able to gain any traction and ended up throwing an interception to Irrigon.

Irrigon took possession of the ball on the Riverside 35 yard line with 5:34 to go in the first half. A five play mix of passes and runs set up a 16 yard touchdown run. A two point conversion gave Irrigon the 20-0 lead with 3:42 to go in the first half.

The teams exchanged possession of the ball to finish the first half. Irrigon led 20-0 when the horn sounded ending the first half.

Irrigon kicked off to Riverside to begin the second half. The Pirates fumbled on third down with Irrigon recovering on the 47 yard line. Irrigon put together five plays only to have a pass intercepted by Felipe Olvera of Riverside with 9:48 to go in the third quarter. Three plays later Irrigon recovered a fumble. Fredy Vera of Irrigon then ran 34 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was missed with Irrigon leading 26-0.

The teams exchanged possession of the ball until about the three minute mark of the third when Fredy Vera returned a punt over 40 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good giving Irrigon the 34-0 lead with 2:54 to go in the third quarter.

The teams exchanged possession over the course of the fourth quarter with neither team scoring. Irrigon replaced starting quaterback Francisco Nunez with Nate Verley in the fourth quarter. The final score was 34-0.
