ECHO - The Echo Lady Cougars defeated the Prairie City Panthers 3-1; 28-26, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-18. It was cancer awareness day with a bake sale and other activities. I can tell from first hand experience that the cake, cookies and cup cakes were excellent. And the money raised went to a local cancer group.
The first set was pretty close with the teams battling for control of the set. The teams exchanged or were tied nine times over the course of the set. There was a point that Echo led by six, 21-15. Prairie City came back on the strength of serve to tie it up at 24. The teams alternated scoring until Ashley Chandler closed it out for Echo, 28-26.
The second set was another close one with Prairie City inching the Cougars to take the set 25-22.
The third set was back and forth until Echo finally took the 15-14 lead. Echo then stretched the lead to 20-15 on the strong serves of Evangalyn Marcum who hit two aces in a row. Echo won the third set 25-21.
Prairie City led the fourth set until Echo finally tied it up at 13-13. Echo then slowly pulled away from the Panthers. Ashley Chandler had a nice run of serve taking Echo to a 20-14 lead. Echo then went on to win by seven points, 25-18.
