HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated The Dalles Wahtonka 51-6 on homecoming night, Friday, October 12, 2012. It was an overcast evening that a light drizzle that began in the first quarter and kept increasing after halftime.
The first touchdown for Hermiston came early in the first quarter when The Dalles Wahtonka punted to the Dawgs at 9:13. The punt was taken by Alejandro Ortiz-Chavez who returned the ball 60 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 7-0 lead.
The next scoring opportunity for Hermiston began after receiving a punt from TDW with 6:31 to go in the first quarter. Hemriston then put together a ten play series with a one yard touchdown run by Cory Adams. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 14-0 lead.
Moments later Hermiston recovered a TDW fumble on the Eagle Indians 15 yard line with 3:23 to go in the first quarter. Two plays later Trenten Anteau scored on a five yard run. The PAT was good giving the Dawgs the 21-0 lead.
Hermiston's next score came on after taking over the ball on downs with 1:27 to go in the first quarter. Hermiston quarterback Chase Knutz then threw a touchdown pass to Alejandro Ortiz-Chavez. The PAT went left making the score 27-0.
Hermiston's next scoring drive began at 7:45 of the second quarter when TDW was forced to punt the ball. The Dawgs put together an eleven play drive mixing up passes and runs with a few penalties to make things interesting. Quarterback Chase Knutz ended up scoring on a one yard run. The PAT was good making the score 34-0.
TDW fumbled on their first run from scrimage after the kickoff and Hermiston took over. What looked like a touchdown pass was called back on a penalty called against Hermiston. The penalty against Hermiston only delayed the inevitable as the Dawgs a put together a four series for a touchdown. The touchdown came on a three yard run by Trenten Anteau. The PAT was good making the score 41-0.
Following the homecoming festivities at halftime Hermiston came right out of the dressing room and drove for the opening score of the second half. The Dawgs took the opening kickoff of the third quarter on their own 35 yard line. Seven plays later on third and goal fromt he two yard line a quick run gives the Dawgs the 47-0. The PAT was good making the score 48-0. That started the game clock running continuously with the third quarter taking only slightly more than 15 minutes to play. When the horn sounded at the end of the third quarter Hermiston led 48-0.
The drizzle picked up in the fourth quarter making it difficult to keep readable notes. With the game clock running continuously in the fourth the teams would have keep the ball moving if they wanted to score. Hermiston had a drive fizzle out with 8:20 to go on about the 20 yard line. Hermiston kicked a field goal to make the score 51-0.
TDW finally put together a successful scoring drive midway through the fourth scoring a touchdown on a running play. The score came with 3:33 to go in the game. That ended up being the final score of the game. Hermiston won the homecoming game 51-6.
