Hermiston Lady Bulldogs Defeated Hood River Valley In Softball

HERMISTON - The Hermiston Lady Bulldogs defeated Hood River Valley Eagles 4-2 in softball action on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. It was a hazy afternoon with the temperature around 62 degrees.

Hood River scored first in the top of the first on a home run by Kala Byers hit over the left field fence. The Eagles held the lead until the third inning.

Hermiston scored in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs Jennifer Paxton got on base with a hit to left field. Paige Long then hit a home run over the right field to give Hermiston the 2-0 lead. Abi Drotzmann then hit to left field. Melina Rodriguez then hit to left field. Abi Drotzmann worked her way around to third. Drotzmann then scored from third on a pass ball to give Hermiston the 3-1 lead at the end of the third inning.

The next score came in the top of the fourth inning when Hood River scored a runner from second on a hit to right field. Hermiston led 3-2 mid way through the fourth inning.

Mykel Liebe led off the bottom of the fourth with a base hit. Mikaela Cain-Anderson then laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Liebe to reach third base. Liebe then scored on a wild pitch giving Hermiston the 4-2 lead.

Both teams jousted back and forth but neither team scored in the final three innings. Hermiston won the game 4-2.
